Luke studied at the Royal Academy of Music for his undergraduate degree, receiving first class honours in 2016. He then completed his master's at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he graduated with distinction. Prior to moving to London, Luke attended Chetham's School of Music in Manchester. Luke has performed as concerto soloist with orchestras including the Northern Chamber Orchestra and has played as soloist for BBC Proms Extra, in the Royal Concertgebouw's Recital Hall and for Her Majesty the Queen. He has also given solo recitals at Bath's Pump Rooms for the Bath Recital Artists' Trust, as well as at venues such as Bristol's Beacon. In 2014, he gave a solo recital at the British Flute Society's International Convention held at Warwick Arts Centre, after winning 1st prize in the British Flute Society's Young Artist Competition earlier that year.

 

Other competition successes include winning 1st prize in the Royal Academy of Music's 'All Flutes Plus' Flute Competition in his first year of study at the RAM, 1st prize in the Nicholas Blake Wind Ensemble Competition with his wind quintet and 1st prize in the Liverpool European Capital of Culture Young Musician of the Year in 2008. He was also a prize winner two years running in Chetham's Concerto Competition, was a finalist in the Jeunesses International Flute Competition in Bucharest, Romania in 2011 and was a woodwind category finalist in BBC Young Musician 2012. In 2015, Luke received the Chris Taylor Flute Prize at the Royal Academy of Music and a year later received the John Booth Prize upon graduation.

 

Luke is principal flute of the Orchestra of Opera North. He has played as guest principal flute with orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony, Bath Philharmonia, Brandenburg Sinfonia, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera, Ensemble 10/10, Hallé, London Sinfonietta, London Concert Orchestra, Northern Ballet Sinfonia, Philharmonia, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Royal Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and has also worked with the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic and Orchestra of Scottish Opera. He has also recorded for several film scores including 'The Shape of Water', 'The Mummy' (2017), 'Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion' and Ugly Dolls (2019). He previously took part in the London Symphony Orchestra Academy and London Sinfonietta Academy and was the flautist for the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Foyle Future Firsts Scheme 2016-17. In his school days, he was principal flute of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

Luke has also enjoyed much outreach work through the Opera North Orchestra Academy and has also worked with students from the RNCM and Leeds Conservatoire.
